Jeremy Herb

Jeremy Herb is a journalist from San Jose, Calif., who has worked for Newsweek, The New York Times, The Indianapolis Star and the Bay Area News Group. He has reported across the U.S. from San Francisco to New York, and in Israel, the West Bank and Ireland.

Jeremy received his Master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in May 2009. At Columbia, he traveled with the Covering Religion class on a reporting trip to Ireland, thanks to a grant from the Scripps Howard Foundation.

This spring, Jeremy interned for a new blog by The New York Times in New Jersey, called “The Local.” He covered the Millburn, N.J., writing about the town, producing multimedia features and creating databases for the site.

Jeremy was awarded a Pulliam Fellowship in summer 2008 at the Indianapolis Star. Working as a metro reporter, he wrote about problems with the state lottery and a new police and fire radio system.

As a part-time reporter for The Argus in Fremont, Calif., Jeremy was part of a project revealing the full scope of Catholic priest abuse in the Oakland Diocese. The series won a 2008 Public Service Award from the Associated Press Managing Editors Association.

Jeremy graduated in June 2008 from Santa Clara University, where he was Editor in Chief of The Santa Clara for two years. He covered cocaine use on campus, a story that won him two national awards for feature writing and in-depth reporting. For his senior capstone project, he received a grant from Santa Clara University’s Markkula Center for Applied Ethics to report on a half-Palestinian, half-Israeli village in Israel.

Currently, Jeremy is an editorial intern at Newsweek.

Outside of journalism, Jeremy has played electric and classical guitar in several bands. His high school rock band recorded two five-song CDs, which you can listen to by you e-mailing Jeremy. He also played hockey for eight years, and is an avid pool and poker player when he can find the time.

This is Jeremy’s professional Web site and personal blog, where he discusses everything from living and working in New York City to the San Jose Sharks.
